You’ve never heard someone say, “Can’t wait to file my taxes!” Filing our taxes is something we just do – an obligation. At 1040.com, we’ve turned your obligation to file into an opportunity to help. For every 2015 tax return filed through 1040.com, including free returns, we are donating $2 to clean water projects. This way, you’re not only filing your taxes, you’re making a difference – and that’s pretty cool.

Why clean water?

Each day, nearly 1,000 children die due to preventable water and sanitation-related diseases*. To help provide safe water to those who desperately need it, our donations will go to support Healing Waters International (HWI), a non-profit organization based in Golden, Colorado. HWI partners with communities in developing countries to provide safe water and health and hygiene education. They develop affordable, state-of-the-art water filtration systems that can transform dirty water into safe water … anywhere in the world. We’ve travelled with HWI to visit their project sites in the Dominican Republic – we were impressed and inspired! Local ownership is the heartbeat of every project. HWI teams up with local community leaders, empowering them to manage and maintain sustainable community projects. A key component is their health and hygiene curriculum – a “train the trainer” model to help local leaders teach community members about proper health and hygiene.

The United Nations has established 17 Sustainable Development Goals to transform our world, and Goal #6 is “Ensure access to water and sanitation for all”; more specifically, to achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all by 2030*. We’ve partnered with HWI to help achieve this goal.
