Start filingToday we have Development Associate Sam Chappell from Healing Waters International on the blog to talk about his recent experience in the Dominican Republic.
In March, I got to travel with an awesome group of people and visit our clean water projects in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. This was my first trip since joining the team at Healing Waters International, so it meant I was actually interacting with our technology in the field for the first time. Here are three things that I either learned or experienced during my week on the island of Hispaniola.
Our model really is working.
I heard stories from teachers and pastors about how people’s lives had drastically improved since drinking clean water from our purification systems. I watched school children practice flawless handwashing techniques that they learned from our Health & Hygiene classes.
Our Field Staff are amazing.
Our teammates in the DR and Haiti are constantly working hard to provide as much clean water as possible to their fellow citizens. They do such a great job at identifying quality project partners that are willing to invest in long-term change by installing clean water projects.
We have so much work to do.
Yes, we are providing clean water to thousands of people in the DR and Haiti, but there are still millions who suffer from waterborne illnesses on a daily basis. We must continue to be strategic and effective in how we bring clean water to those who desperately need it.
Needless to say, it was an impactful trip, because it helped me see the Global Water Crisis from a more educated perspective. I was able to meet and get to know our Field Staff in a personal way. I was able to hear from project partners about how their new clean water project “still felt like a dream.” Lastly, it reminded me how our work at Healing Waters International is changing lives in some of the most forgotten, yet beautiful, places on the map.
